Why did I become an entrepreneur?

WHY is a trendy word right now in small business. What's your why? This blog post leans more towards the why did I {intentionally} become an entrepreneur.  I have yet to share my journey in entrepreneurship and am excited to start with this WHY.  My story is unique for sure. There is no direct path starting from point A and ending at point B.  It's long, lots of zig zagging, but it's my journey and I'm pround to share it with you.

I'm not an accidental entrepreneur.  I didn't have a problem to solve (like most) or need a much deserved break from corporate life.  I was a college senior looking for my first job.  My college story is a bit all over the place too, but we'll save that for another day. My friends, who were graduating from normal degree programs, we're all applying for normal jobs. Who was going to be a teacher or a consultant and I kept asking them all the same thing. What kind of vacation time do you get? May sound odd, but my sister and I grew up with entrepreneurial  parents.  They worked crazy hard, but they played crazy hard too. Travel was a part of our life and I couldn't imagine going from having summers 100% free (plus all the other school breaks) to earning 5 days off once you hit the 6 month mark at a company.  Didn't make much sense to me, so I decided to not pursue interviews in a more corporate setting, to growing a greeting card business I had started my last year in school.

It was a risk for sure, but the pros outweighed the cons and with support from my family, I thought, 'I'll give it a try' and if it doesn't work, I can always go get a real job like my friends.  Almost 20 years later and still no real job!  Being my own boss since the age of 22 is my most proud achievement.  I haven't done anything huge, or sold a million dollar business, but I'm passionate about doing what you love for your work and grateful my career has been made up of many things I love.

More to come soon,

Steph
